The Bringing Online Opportunities to Texas (BOOT) Program continues to make strong progress in expanding broadband access across Texas. In BOOT I, several projects have reached full construction completion, with others are advancing through permitting, equipment staging and site preparation. Grantees are actively installing fiber, completing environmental and engineering steps, and preparing more locations for service — demonstrating steady, ongoing momentum in rural connectivity efforts.
BOOT II is also moving forward with widespread activity across the state. Many projects have entered active construction, including conduit installation, fiber placement and cabinet site preparation. Grantees report growing fiber mileage, expanded construction zones and increasing numbers of serviceable locations. Together, these efforts highlight the BOOT program’s continued progress toward delivering reliable, high-speed broadband to Texas communities.
The Texas Association of Regional Councils, in partnership with the BDO, continues to advance the Texas Regional Broadband Program with strong momentum statewide. April marks a key milestone as Program Agreements are being finalized with participating Councils of Governments (COGs), positioning regions across Texas to begin coordinated broadband planning efforts. Once executed, all participating regions will be actively engaged in developing or implementing strategies to improve broadband access, affordability and adoption across their communities.
In the coming months, regional engagement will ramp up, with COGs working closely with local governments, internet service providers, community organizations and other stakeholders to better understand gaps and identify solutions tailored to each region. These efforts will lay the foundation for future broadband investments and help ensure that communities across Texas are better connected and positioned for long-term economic growth and opportunity.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Texas Rural Funders are co-hosting a free interactive webinar on May 18 at 11 a.m.: “From Silos to Synergy: How to Navigate Competing Priorities in Regional Broadband Coalitions.” Local and regional government leaders, rural community officials, internet service providers, community organizations, anchor institutions and partners working to coordinate or scale broadband efforts across a region are invited to join.
Participants will learn strategies for convening and sustaining a regional broadband coalition, tools for identifying shared goals, tips on navigating competing priorities, and methods for building trust and alignment across sectors and jurisdictions. Register to attend.
